Father Thomas Whitmore
A Letter Behind the Book

Why I began cooking the foods of Scripture.

For years, my life around the church kept bringing me back to the same realization: Scripture is filled not only with sermons and great events, but with ordinary human moments. People gathered. They travelled. They welcomed strangers. They broke bread. They ate together.

My love of cooking gradually became part of that mission. Preparing foods I kept encountering in Scripture — bread, fish, lentils, olives, figs, grapes, honey and grain — made the biblical world feel less distant to me. Sitting down to a simple meal built from those ingredients gave me a small, tangible connection to the world in which Jesus walked.

This cookbook grew from that experience. I hope these recipes give you something delicious to place on your table — and another reason to open Scripture, read the passages, and notice the ordinary details that are so easy to pass by.
